Construction volunteers help build homes for our partner families. They help throughout the whole build process and perform most of the tasks needed to build the house. No construction skills are necessary, and all we ask is for our volunteers to come with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills. There are supervisors on site to guide you through all construction projects being done that day.
You can volunteer both as an individual or group. Usually groups come out on Saturdays, but we do make exceptions. Individuals can come during the week or on Saturdays when a group is not signed-up.
You must be 18 years or older to volunteer on the construction site or 16 years or older accompanied by a legal guardian.

Benefits of Team Build
Increase Visibility in the Community
Habitat for Humanity is a reputable non-profit whose mission to provide safe, affordable, decent housing is world renowned. By partnering with Habitat, you will be associated with community service and improvement. We will work with you to publicize your donation and volunteer service to Habitat.
Create Stronger Relationships
One of the best ways to build new and strengthen existing relationships is to commit to a shared activity together. Volunteering strengthens your ties to the community and broadens your support network, exposing you to people with common interests, neighborhood resources, and fun, fulfilling activities. You can invite clients and customers to come build with you and develop a stronger professional relationship and partnership.
Develop Communication Skills
Good communication skills are needed in the workplace. A construction site can teach you better communication to successfully finish a project. It improves leadership and interpersonal skills and gives employees an opportunity to interact with those they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to.
Women Build – Women Build 2017 Information Handout (PDF)
Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area’s Women Build program brings women from all walks of life together to learn construction skills in a safe, comfortable atmosphere that they might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn and together use those skills to help build safe, decent, and affordable homes for families in need. Women Build is not about excluding men, it’s about including women. Women Build is empowering women to make a difference in their communities.
Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program empowers women to be involved in the entire process of building a home for a hardworking family. Women Build teams come together to fundraise, swing hammers, advocate for affordable housing, and actively work to build community – from raising the first dollar and walls to passing the key to the new homeowner.
Individual Volunteer Opportunities
Thursday-Saturday 8:00 am – 3:00 pm
Individual hours are more flexible with volunteers leaving sooner or later depending on the day. However, we ask that all volunteers arrive by 8:15 am.
Critical Home Repairs
Volunteers also help with critical home repairs. Small groups of volunteers go to houses around the La Crosse area and fix parts of preexisting homes. These tend to be smaller, daily construction projects.
