Meet the Klatte Family

For Jacob Klatte and his wife, Stephanie, homeownership will provide a stable environment to raise their children, Jackson (12), William (11), and Grayson (4), without the uncertainly of renting. Having an affordable monthly housing payment will provide peace of mind by finally allowing the family to save for unexpected expenses and create a safety net.
The family currently lives in very old home. The leaky home has burdened the family with high heating and electric bills, stretching their monthly budget even further. Every spring, the basement floods, and they have to deal with bad smells and mold. “Having a nice, safe home to host friends and have our children’s playmates over will be awesome!” says Jacob.
Jacob and Stephanie will provide 400 hours of sweat equity, working alongside Habitat staff and volunteers to build their home, the first “Habitat for Heroes” Veteran Home. Jacob was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps from 2004-2013. This will be a home for a veteran built by veterans.
Jacob and Stephanie are excited about building their home. “Our family has participated in neighborhood clean-ups with Habitat. We like the fact that it is a ‘hand-up’ and not a ‘hand-out,’ and we feel like it is a way to better our circumstances while contributing to the community as new homeowners,” Jacob says. “We are very excited to learn new skills and help build the home we will be living in. Working with other volunteers will help us meet new people and be a part of a larger community of people interested in helping each other grow.”
When their home is finished, the Klatte Family will purchase it from Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area through a 30-year, 0% interest mortgage.
