ReNew
the Block
ReNew the Block taps into the natural and built elements of our community and strives to make them as resilient and beautiful as possible. It is the first of its kind, unlike any other neighborhood revitalization project in the nation.
Help us bring our vision to life:
ReNew the Block combines exterior home repairs, stormwater mitigation, an edible schoolyard, a community orchard, and long-term educational components…all in one block. This innovative and replicable project helps fulfill our mission to create a community where all feel they belong.
Habitat's first ReNew the Block location is the block at Avon Street in La Crosse between Sill and Clinton Streets, incorporating 29 city parcels, Logan Middle School, and city boulevards and sidewalks. The vision is to turn this portion of the Logan Northside Neighborhood into a sustainable oasis our entire community can enjoy. Our work is tailored to the unique opportunities and challenges of the neighborhood.
Plans integrate layers of community revitalization:
-
Home Repair
Implementing interior and exterior repairs for homeowners most in need
-
Stormwater Mitigation
Protecting our natural environment by restoring water infiltration
-
Urban Agriculture
Providing access to nature, shared outdoor spaces, and healthy food
-
Education
Creating hands-on, outdoor workshops and signage
The ReNew the Block project is bold.
It is meant to be bold. It needs to be bold.
It will highlight all that is possible when neighbors come together. Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region is ready to showcase this pilot project as the first of its kind and set the stage for future efforts in the City of La Crosse, as well as across the nation.
