Habitat's new initiative, ReNew the Block, is a large-scale neighborhood revitalization program. ReNew focuses public, nonprofit, and private sector strengths and assets to create meaningful, visible site upgrades. This unique and replicable project will put the City of La Crosse in the National spotlight of sustainable communities.
Habitat's first ReNew the Block location is the block at Avon Street in La Crosse between Sill and Clinton Streets, incorporating 29 city parcels, the Northside Community Pool, and Logan Middle School. The vision is to turn this barren portion of the Logan Northside Neighborhood, into a sustainable oasis our entire community can enjoy.
Plans integrate layers of community revitalization
1) Critical Home Repair | Implementing interior and exterior repairs for homeowners most in need
2) Stormwater Mitigation | Protecting the natural environment by restoring water infiltration
3) Urban Agriculture | Providing access to nature, shared outdoor spaces and healthy food
4) Education | Arranging hands-on, outdoor educational curriculum, workshops, and signage

The ReNew the Block project is bold. It is meant to be bold. It needs to be bold. It will highlight all that is possible when people, neighbors, organizations, and communities come together. Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area is ready to showcase this pilot project, as the first of its kind, and set the stage for future efforts in the City of La Crosse as well as across the nation.
