A fundraising campaign for ReNew the Block
Support ReNew the Block by purchasing a customized permeable paver—a lasting symbol of your commitment to strong neighborhoods and a sustainable La Crosse.
By purchasing a paver, you’re taking part in the revitalization of Avon Street on La Crosse’s Northside. Donations will support shade trees, native plants, home repairs, and a permeable paver pathway outside Logan Middle School.
About ReNew the Block
Designed in partnership with residents and Logan Middle School students, ReNew will transform a portion of the Logan Northside Neighborhood into a sustainable oasis our entire community can enjoy.
Habitat's first ReNew the Block location is the block at Avon Street in La Crosse between Sill and Clinton Streets, incorporating 29 city parcels, Logan Middle School, and city boulevards and sidewalks. Our work is tailored to the unique opportunities and challenges of the neighborhood.

Here’s what we’ve achieved so far:

One of ReNew the Block’s standout moments in 2024 was the new mural at Logan Middle School. Designed with input from Logan art students and brought to life by local artist Landon Sheely, the project was a true community collaboration, made possible with support from the City of La Crosse Arts Board.

Logan Middle students planted a pollinator paradise in the boulevards along Avon Street. Fifteen trees and over 1,200 native plants now bloom in front of the school and nearby homes.

Homes along Avon Street received much-needed exterior upgrades and landscaping. Ten houses were outfitted with new gutters to help protect aging foundations by redirecting rainwater. Meanwhile, twelve households chose fruit trees to plant in their front yards, together creating a community orchard for neighbors to share and enjoy.

The transformation of Logan Middle School’s grounds began with a vision—and students helped bring it to life. Classes helped design and install a new walking path, outdoor classroom, and rain garden. Students played a hands-on role in creating a greener, more inspiring space for learning and community.
Here’s what we are working on next:

Your custom paver will become part of a permeable paver pathway, helping capture polluted rainwater rather than sending it to our local waterways.

We’re completing critical home repairs on nine houses along Avon Street, focused on households' safety, health, and energy efficiency.

We’re planting shade trees and native plants to improve stormwater mitigation, tree canopy, and overall resilience along the block.

At Logan, we’re installing food forests and gardens so students and neighbors can enjoy fresh produce. We’re also installing limestone seating areas designed for outdoor class experiences and community members to gather.
