WOMEN BUILD

women build 2026

This year, 60 women came to our Washburn Habitat rehab house to help demo 3 bedrooms, 1 office, 1 bathroom, and 1 full chimney! During the demo, 21,090 pounds of material were removed from the house. Along with the removed weight, almost all of the original hardwood was carefully removed and salvaged to be put back in the future. Volunteers grew skills in the use of power & hand tools and demolition.

Thank you sponsors!

"I like to work on the Women’s Build.  You get to meet new people, learn new skills (or reminded how to do something you haven’t done in a while), and have fun! Sometimes you learn which muscles you haven’t used in a while.  Sometimes it is shoveling and putting up safety barriers, sometimes it is putting up siding or drywall.  Whatever you are doing, you are doing it with others, so the task is not daunting.  It is rewarding to see how much is accomplished each day.  Don’t worry if you haven’t used tools in a while, or ever, because there is always someone to help you.  Join us!"

"I find the Women's Build a very special event. Habitat recognizes the value women bring to their sustainable housing focus.  Women have long been the prime 'engine' of all that goes on in the home.  Now women are able to share their talents and sisterhood during a day of serving in a transformational role.  This is an empowering experience whether it is one's first build, or just one of many over the years."

"My experience with Women Build events is the overwhelming sense of literally and figuratively building a community.  Staff and fellow volunteers come together to build a strong and safe home for a local family.  I hope that the new family can feel the powerful emotions of strength and hope with every drywall screw, nail, 2 x 4, and piece of drywall, knowing it was our community building their new home.  Not only do we build friendships by working together, we build hope for all for our future.”
